Child benefit
You may be entitled to child benefit if you have a child under the age of 18 in your care, who is living with you in Norway. Single parents are also entitled to extended child benefit and infant supplement. You do not usually need to apply for child benefit. If the child is born in Norway, the mother will automatically receive child benefit around 2 months after the child is born.

Apply for companion certificate Orkdal municipality
Companion certificates are issued to disabled persons who would like to be accompanied by a friend, family member or care assistant when they are out and about in society. The companion certificate scheme is voluntary organised by municipal authorities. It aims to improve the quality of life for disabled persons. In areas where the scheme is in operation, the certificate entitles a disabled person's companion to free entrance to public cultural events and travel on public transport. You can apply for one online.

Dependent's pension - SPK
When a member of the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund dies, the spouse, children or registered partner have the right to a dependent's pension (survivor’s pension). Also a divorced spouse / registered partner may have the right to this support. A cohabitant is not entitled to a dependent´s pension.

Survivor's benefits - NAV
Survivor’s pension (dependent's pension) and transitional benefits to survivors are benefits contributing to a subsistence income for a spouse/cohabitant after the death of the other person. If you are gainfully employed, have children, are a genuine job seeker or attend school, you may also be entitled to other benefits, which also is listed on this web page.

Pensioners in EU/EEA and Switzerland - health services
If you have moved to an EU / EEA country or Switzerland, you are no longer a member of the Norwegian National Insurance Scheme. You will no longer be entitled to a GP or healthcare coverage in Norway. If you are an insured person or retirement pensioner and are going to move abroad, you can apply for Helfo on form E121. The E121 / S1 will entitle you to health care in the public health system according to the rules of the country in which you live.

Resuming unemployment benefits
If you received unemployment benefits in the past but have not received them for a while, you can reapply for these benefits by submitting the simplified application form. You may not submit a simplified application if more than 52 weeks have passed since you last received unemployment benefits.

Disability benefit
Disability benefit may be appropriate for those who have a permanently reduced earning capacity due to illness or injury. Whether you are entitled to full disability benefit or graded (partial) disability benefit depends on your earning capacity. If it is possible for you to work say 40 per cent, you may be eligible for 60 per cent disability benefit. You may be entitled to child supplement if you receive disability benefits while supporting your own children or foster children under the age of 18.

Sickness benefits compensate for loss of income for those who are occupationally disabled due to an illness or injury.
Parental benefit
Parental benefit is intended to ensure parents an income in connection with the birth or adoption of a child.
Apply unemployment benefits
In order to become eligible for unemployment benefit, you must first register as a job seeker at NAV. The earliest you can submit your claim for unemployment benefit is one week before the first day on which you become totally or partially unemployed. It is important that you do not submit your application too early, as it may be rejected.
Claim for cash benefit for parents of young children
You can receive cash-for-care benefits for children between the ages of one and two years of age or for adopted children who have not started school. If your child attends a government subsidised day care centre full-time, you will not receive cash-for-care benefits. If your child attends a government subsidised day-care centre part-time, you can receive partial support.
Supplemental benefits - NAV
You may be entitled to specific benefits to cover certain costs related to occupational evaluations or occupational activities (e.g. for specific measures or to participate in an approved educational or training programme).
Lump-sum grant on birth or adoption
The mother may receive a lump-sum grant at birth or adoption if she is not entitled to receive parental benefit. If the father has sole care he may be entitled to a lump-sum grant.
Submit an employment status form online - NAV
To register as a job seeker or to receive unemployment benefit while you are seeking work, you need to report to NAV every 14 days. You can do this by submitting an employment status form online.

Financial assistance is a temporary form of income. The objective of this type of benefit is to help you manage on your own as soon as possible. Before you can qualify for financial assistance you must consider every other possibility for you to provide for yourself. Work assessment allowance (AAP)
A work assessment allowance allows you to have an income in periods during which you are ill or injured and need assistance from the Norwegian Labour and Welfare Administration (NAV) to return to work. You can receive assessment allowance if your work capability has been impaired by at least 50 per cent.
