Asylum procedure
The Netherlands grants asylum to people who would be in danger if they were to return to their own country. First, however, special procedures are followed to determine whether an asylum seeker genuinely needs protection.
Unaccompanied minor aliens (AMV)
Unaccompanied minor aliens (AMV) are aliens under the age of 18 who, on their arrival in the Netherlands, were not accompanied by a parent or other relative by blood or marriage aged 18 or over.
Refugees in the Netherlands
Since the summer of 2015 the number of refugees entering the European Union (EU) has doubled. EU member states are calling for better reception in safe countries in the region. The Netherlands and other EU member states have also agreed to receive more asylum seekers.
