Economic diplomacy
Many Dutch entrepreneurs and researchers work abroad and invest abroad, and many foreign companies also invest in the Dutch economy. Commerce and investment lead to growth and create jobs. The Dutch government strives to increase opportunities for Dutch entrepreneurs on foreign markets.
Foreign company investment
Foreign investors are responsible for some 780,000 jobs in the Netherlands.
Diplomatic immunity
Diplomats who represent their country abroad enjoy diplomatic immunity. This protects them against prosecution in the receiving state for the entire period in which they hold their diplomatic post.
The BZ 24/7 Contact Centre for consular assistance and advice
The 24/7 Contact Centre at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs can give you information and advice about passports, safe travel and legalisation. But it can also help if something happens to you – for example if you end up in hospital or lose your travel documents.
Return policy
Foreign nationals who are not from the European Union (EU), Norway, Iceland or Switzerland need a residence permit to stay in the Netherlands. Foreign nationals residing in the Netherlands who have no right to a residence permit or who have never applied for one are here illegally. They must leave the country.
Exclusion orders
In certain cases migrants who are no longer permitted to remain in the Netherlands may be subject to an exclusion order, for example if they are in the Netherlands illegally and have committed multiple crimes, or pose a threat to public policy or public security.
