Apply for a Lantau Closed Road Permit ("Driving on Lantau Island" Scheme)
Under the “Driving on Lantau Island” Scheme, you may apply to drive a private car on the closed roads on Lantau Island to visit places like Ngong Ping, Tai O, Cheung Sha and Mui Wo from Monday to Friday (except public holidays) from 8 am to 7 pm for leisure and recreational purposes. The daily quota is 25 private cars, and the places will be allocated on a first come, first served basis. If you are interested in this scheme, please check the quota availability, and apply for a Lantau Closed Road Permit (LCRP) through the online service provided by the Transport Department.
Online Checking System for Hire Car Permit
The existing law stipulates provisions on the use of private cars for the carriage of passengers for hire or reward. According to section 52(3) of the Road Traffic Ordinance (Cap. 374), no person shall drive or use a private car; or suffer or permit a private car to be driven or used for the carriage of passengers for hire or reward unless a hire car permit (HCP) is in force in respect of the vehicle.
Online Application for Closed Road Permit for ‘Macao PnR Scheme’
The Governments of Hong Kong and Macao introduce the ‘Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge (‘HZMB’) Macao Port Park-and-Ride Scheme’ (the ‘Macao PnR Scheme’). Eligible Hong Kong non-commercial private car owners may go to Macao via the HZMB and park their private car at the East Car Park of HZMB the Frontier Post at Macao Port (‘the Macao Carpark’) for short stay without any quota requirement. The private car owners only need to obtain the requisite vehicle licences and permits from the Hong Kong and Macao Governments respectively and reserve a car parking space at the Macao Carpark. Drivers and passengers of private cars should park their cars at the Macao Carpark and complete the clearance procedures before interchanging with public transport to travel to other areas of Macao.
