Import Permits for Animals and Poultry
Individuals and businesses (wholesale importers) wishing to import live animals and animal products are required to apply for an import permit from the Ministry of Agriculture, Land and Fisheries prior to the import's entry into Trinidad and Tobago. This certificate, issued by the authorised certifying agency of the Ministry of Agriculture, Land and Fisheries from the exporting country, will be approved by the Agricultural Planning Division and will be returned to the applicant. The fee for each cat or dog requiring quarantine is TT$20.00 per day for a 30-day quarantine or TT$10.00 per day for six-month quarantine.
Importing Meat Products
Importers of meat and meat products, excluding poultry, are required to obtain a Meat Products Inspection Certificate prior to the importation of meat products. The Meat Products Inspection Certificate confirms that the product is suitable for consumption and allows for the importation of meat and meat products into Trinidad and Tobago with minimal risk to the animal and human populations. The meat or meat product must be from a country that is free of any disease associated with the specific item.
