Scholarships
Citizens of Trinidad and Tobago can apply for a number of academic scholarships for post-secondary study, both at home and abroad. Some of these scholarships are funded by international organisations or foreign governments, while others are offered directly by the Government of Trinidad and Tobago. All applicants must fill out an SATD application form, which can be obtained from the SATD at the addresses below or on the SATD website.
GATE - Government Assistance for Tuition Expenses
GATE - Government Assistance for Tuition Expenses. Students can obtain financial assistance for tertiary-level education through the Government Assistance for Tuition Expenses Programme (GATE). All students who accept GATE funds, including postgraduate students, will be bound by a period of national service that will be linked to the value of the funds received.
School Supplies Grant
The maximum amount disbursed is TT$1000.00 per secondary child and TT$700.00 per primary school child. You must be a needy person who has lost school materials as the result of a natural disaster. For more information on how to apply for this grant and the eligibility criteria, please contact the Social Welfare Division office in your district.
The Tobago Financial Assistance Programme for Tertiary Studies
The Tobago Financial Assistance Programme for Tertiary Studies. The Tobago House of Assembly (THA) provides financial assistance for residents of Tobago who experience difficulty covering costs associated with tertiary studies. Applicants must be citizens of Trinidad and Tobago, resident in Tobago and be enrolled in or accepted at an accredited tertiary-level educational institution.
Education Grant
The Education grant is provided to assist in meeting a child's maintenance cost at secondary school, such as transportation and other school related expenses. The maximum amount you can receive is TT$500.00 per child per month, up to a maximum of four children. The grant is provided every month while the child is attending secondary school, and it is reviewed annually by the Local Social Welfare Board.
GATE eService
Who is Eligible?. All citizens of Trinidad and Tobago who are accepted into a recognised tertiary programme may apply for GATE funding via the GATE eService.
