Tertiary-Level Distance Education Courses
Tertiary-Level Distance Education Courses. Distance education (DE) involves learning away from the classroom, without the teacher and student having to be in the same place at the same time. The Accreditation Council of Trinidad and Tobago (ACTT) is responsible for accrediting tertiary level institutions (TLIs) and implementing standards and mechanisms to assure the quality of TLIs and the programmes they offer.
Educational Visits to Prison Facilities and the YTC
The Trinidad and Tobago Prison Service conducts educational visits to the Youth Training Centre (YTC) for adolescents and other members of the general public. The purpose of these visits is to deter young people from pursuing a life of crime or engaging in activities that may lead them to be placed in the YTC. Requests to visit YTC must be made in writing to the Commissioner of Prisons at least four weeks in advance of the intended visit date.
Applying to Teacher Training and Development Programmes
Teachers can obtain training in new and emerging technologies and teaching strategies. Available programmes include a Diploma in Education from the University of the West Indies (UWI) and a Technical Teacher Diploma from the University of Trinidad and Tobago (UTT). These training and development programmes are made available through the joint support of the Ministry of Education (MOE) and the Ministry of Tertiary Education and Skills Training.
Government Vocational Centre
The Government Vocational Centre provides Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) in various vocational disciplines aimed at addressing the deficiency in available human resources, particularly in the south-western peninsula of Trinidad. Training usually begins in September of each academic year, lasts for two years, and is open to eligible persons who are interested in acquiring Level II (craft) certification. At the end of your 2-year training period, your certificate of completion will be sent to the Ministry of Education for processing through the National Examinations Council.

Special Education
Special education is the provision of education for students with disabilities. Special education is coordinated through the Student Support Services (SSS) Division of the Ministry of Education, which has the responsibility for Special Education throughout Trinidad and Tobago. In order to qualify for services, a child must require special education and related services due to his or her different abilities and learning style.
School Nutrition Programme
The Government of Trinidad and Tobago recognises that education must involve the total health and well-being of the child. The programme is managed by the National Schools Dietary Services Limited (NSDSL), which falls under the authority of the Ministry of Education. Your child will receive breakfast and/or lunch if the principal of his or her school recommends that your child participate in the School Nutrition Programme.

National Test for Primary School Students
National Test for Primary School Students. The National Test is an annual standardised examination for students in Standards 1 and 3, covering the subjects of Language Arts, Mathematics, Science and Social Studies. Secondary Entrance Assessment (SEA)
The Secondary Entrance Assessment (SEA) Examination is used to facilitate the placement of students in Secondary Schools throughout Trinidad and Tobago. The SEA is comprised of three papers in the subjects of Creative Writing, Mathematics, and Language Arts, and covers the national curriculum for primary-level education with a focus on Standards Three to Five. Students must complete the SEA Registration Form, which is made available at all primary schools at the beginning of the first term of the school year in September.
London General Certificate of Examinations (GCE)
London General Certificate of Examinations (GCE). The General Certificate of Education (GCE) is an internationally recognised certification at the secondary level that is usually required to attend university or study for professional qualifications. Anyone ten years of age and over can write the London GCE O Level or A Level Examination.

Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE)
Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) refers to a wide range of programmes aimed at the physical, cognitive and social development of children before they enter primary school. ECCE is not compulsory in Trinidad and Tobago, but the demand for it is growing as parents and educators see how pre-primary education helps to set the foundation for lifelong learning. Local School Boards
The Ministry of Education has embarked on a process of School Based Management with the aim of providing government schools with greater autonomy, authority and support. Local School Boards have been introduced at each Government Secondary School with the aim of improving student achievement and enriching the school environment. Primary School Leaving Certificate Examination (PSLCE). The Primary School Leaving Certificate Examination (PSLCE) assesses academic achievement at the Primary School level in the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago. The PSLCE is held annually on Tuesday and Wednesday of the third week in June.

Primary education is compulsory and provided free of cost in Trinidad and Tobago. Most parents first enrol their children in primary school in September of the year in which they turn five.
